Dan and Ellen Kilmer of Milton-Freewater have celebrated 60 years of marriage with several trips to southern gospel concerts.
They attended Praisefest in Branson, Mo., Great Western Fan Festival in Visailia, Calif., and Stars and Stripes in Meridian, Idaho.
The couple were sweethearts at McLoughlin Union High School, and graduated in 1957. They wed on July 6, 1958, in Milton-Freewater. Ellen’s maiden name is Cutshall.
Dan and Ellen own Kilmer’s Auto Parts. Dan has been at the business for 64 years and currently works there part time.
He served 16 years on the Milton-Freewater School District 31 School Board and is now chairman of the Milton-Freewater Ambulance Service District. He belongs to a Milton-Freewater men’s prayer group and active with Walla Walla Gideon Camp.
He enjoys computer and yard work, and doing maintenance, as in “if it’s broke fix it.”
Ellen Kilmer has been a 43-year Avon representative and has worked in the office at Kilmer’s Auto Parts store. She enjoys walking and reading and is a member of a bunco group. She has also volunteered with three charities for more than 15 years.
The Kilmers are members of Blue Mountain Community Church in Walla Walla. Over the years, Dan has served on various boards and committees and taught Christian education classes.
The Kilmers’ daughter Brenda DeMers lives in Beaverton, Ore., and their son, Dwayne Kilmer, lives in Milton-Freewater. They also have 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Daughter Deanna Peck died in January 2002.
