PRESCOTT — A first-ever event intended to bring together the Touchet Valley community will take place Saturday in Prescott.

The Touchet Valley Spark in the Park “is to light up community connections and build positive relationships between all members of the Touchet River Valley,” said Chris Oliver, one of the organizers. “It will be a celebration that showcases community assets and inspires pride, engagement and new traditions.”

The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the Prescott Pool in Fields View Park. Along with swimming activities, visitors will find food and other vendors, local fire trucks, family games and booths by various social service providers.

The afternoon activities will move to Prescott’s Main Street, where dancers from Chiquillas Ballet will perform at 3 p.m. at the Prescott Plaza Park followed at 5 p.m. with the Frog Hollow Band performing for a community street dance. This will be followed by a dinner offered by the Prescott Lions Club.

As part of the festivities, there will be an art contest hosted by the Prescott Library for children 18 and under, with the top three artists awarded prizes. Residents are also asked to bring a nonperishable food item to the event for donation to the food bank in Waitsburg run by Blue Mountain Action Council.

The Spark in the Park is being hosted by community leaders, local sponsors and the Sherwood Trust Community Leadership Program 2018 Cohort, Oliver said.
