The 2019 Musical Theatre Experience at Walla Walla Community College provides individualized teaching and training for youths and adults.
These classes, sponsored by the WWCC Community Education Department, are for people of all backgrounds and experience levels. The MTE Youth Program, for ages 10-14, runs from July 29-Aug. 11, Monday-Friday, 2-4 p.m.
Students can explore acting, singing and fundamental movement skills. The cost is $100.
The MTE Adult Program, for ages 14 and older, runs from July 29-Aug. 11, Monday-Friday, 6:30-9 p.m. This program focuses on cultivating the artistry of each individual. Acting training, expressive singing and awareness through movement will be explored. Adult students will have the opportunity to prepare a musical theater audition song. The cost is $150.
Both classes will meet onstage in the WWCC Performing Arts Auditorium in the Health Science Building.
The creative team is comprised of experienced professionals. Anna Newbury, movement and acting instructor, has recently completed her first year in the master’s degree acting program at Florida State University, Sarasota. Kristin Vining, music director, is a composer and Whitman College instructor. Julie Jones and Kevin Loomer are on the Walla Walla Community College faculty. Jones is MTE program coordinator and vocal instructor. Loomer, an actor and director, will teach acting.
The MTE programs will culminate in a collaborative performance at 2 p.m. Aug. 11 in the Performing Arts Auditorium. The free performance is open to the community.
