Josh Prizina went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Walla Walla Sweets as they clinched an above .500 overall record for this season with their 7-3 trouncing of the Yakima Valley Pippins in West Coast League baseball action here at Borleske Stadium on Saturday night.
The Sweets (27-23 overall record) next will look for a series sweep of the Pippins with their final game at Borleske this season, tonight at 7:05 p.m.
The Sweets will then hit the run to close out the season with a three-game series at Cowlitz starting on Monday.
On Saturday, Wala Walla starting pitcher Tyson Quolas worked the first five innings and left with a 7-1 lead.
Quolas held Yakima to one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and a walk.
The Sweets jumped ahead with a run in the bottom of the first inning as Cesar Lopez singled with one out and then stole second base with two down before coming home on the next pitch when Jordan Hovey singled him in.
Three more Walla Walla runs, all with two outs in the second inning, made it a 4-0 game.
Isaak Gutierrez and Prizina started the rally on back-to-back one-out singles before a string of two-out, run-scoring hits from Patrick Caulfield, Lopez and Nick Nyquist.
Yakima scratched out a run in the top of the third inning, but the Sweets answered with a Nyquist sacrifice fly to make a 5-1 game in the fourth.
Walla Walla added two more runs in the fifth inning as Josh Prizina doubled with Ryan Johnston and Tyler Pritchard for a 7-1 lead.
