The Walla Walla Sweets scored at least run in each the first four innings — multiple runs three of them — starting pitcher Bryce Moyle shutout the Cowlitz Black Bears for six, and they went on to a 9-0 victory in West Coast League baseball action here at Borleske Stadium on Saturday.

Patrick Caulfield and Matt Whitney, the first two hitters in the Sweets lineup, fueled the onslaught with three hits apiece.

Nick Nyquist had one hit, but it was a two-run homer for a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Meanwhile, Moyle blanked Cowlitz on three singles and two walks while chalking up 11 strikeouts.

The Sweets-Black Bears series continues this afternoon at Borleske Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled at 4:35 p.m.

On Saturday, the Sweets wasted little time jumping ahead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Patrick Caulfield led off the home half of the first with a triple, and prompty scored when No. 2 hitter Matt Whitney doubled on his first pitch.

Whitney then advanced to third base on a wild pitch, and soon doubled the Sweets lead on a Ben Farris sacrifice fly to center field.

The Sweets added another run in the bottom of the second inning with Elser hitting a lead-off double, moving up to third base on a Tyler Pritchard groundout, and then scoring on a Caulfield groundout to make it a 3-0 game.

Elser later doubled home Jack Filby and Ryan Johnston, both aboard on walks, with two outs in the third inning for a 5-0 Sweets lead.

Nick Nyquist then belted a two-run homer, on the heels of a Whitney double, in the fourth inning to make it a 7-0 game.

Cowlitz managed to hold Walla Walla scoreless in the fifth inning, but the Sweets got back to it in the sixth with Caulfield hitting a lead-off single and stealing second base before Whitney singled him home for an 8-0 lead.

The Black Bears then forced Whitney out on a Nyquist grounder, but back-to-back walks loaded the bases.

Cowlitz called on another relief pitcher, but Tate Soderstrom greeted him with a single that scored Nyquist to put the game out of reach at 9-0.

Moyle then turned the mound over to Michael Peterson, who wrapped up the win with three scoreless innings of relief.

Cowlitz touched Peterson for three hits, but he tallied four strikeouts without a walk.,
