CHICO, Calif. — Walla Walla Bears No. 9 hitter Kyler Tiner singled, stole second base, took third on a balk, tagged up to score the go-ahead run on a Kobe Morris sacrifice fly, and they held for a 3-2 victory over the Chico Nuts in American Legion baseball action here at the Father’s Day Summer Slam on Thursday.

Bears pitchers Ben Ortiz, Matt McKenzie and Brody Woods together limited Chico to only a couple of runs on three hits (all singles) and two walks while chalking up four strikeouts for an undefeated Walla Walla (7-0-2 record).

Kyler Barnett singled twice to finished with a game-high two hits for the Bears.

Walla Walla jumped ahead in the top of the first inning when Kobe Morris singled, advanced to second base on a balk, and then hustled home on a Chico error out in right field off the bat of Kyren Morris.

Back-to-back Chico infield errors in the top of the fifth inning enabled Walla Walla to double its lead as Kobe Morris reached on a ground ball and then stole both second base and third before scoring on a grounder by Kyren Morris.

The bottom half of the fifth inning saw Chico tie things up on a pair of singles, two walks and a sacrifice fly, but the Bears came back with the final run in the top of the sixth.

Tournament action continues today, and goes on through Sunday.
