SEATTLE — Longtime Seattle Reign and U.S. national team goalkeeper Hope Solo, who is currently suspended from the USWNT and missed the final few games of the NWSL season, has undergone shoulder replacement surgery, the player announced Wednesday on her Facebook account.
Solo, a 35-year-old Richland native and former UW Husky, has made more than 200 career appearances for the USWNT and notched more than 100 shutouts, an international record. She also played in 54 games for the Reign over the past four seasons.
Solo was suspended from the national team in August after calling the Swedish team a “bunch of cowards” following the U.S.’s shock elimination from the Olympics. A few days later, she announced her intention to sit out the remainder of the Reign’s season.
