LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — The Wa-Hi boys finished their golf season in the District 8 regional tournament here at MeadowWood on Monday and Tuesday.
Ethan Naftzger, Stephen Butler, Grant Hartzheim and Joel Redman together compiled a 353-357—710 that placed Wa-Hi sixth among the six teams, three from the Mid-Columbia Conference and three from the Greater Spokane League.
Gonzaga Prep bested teams wth a 289-294—583 that was 12 shots ahead of second-place Central Valley with Mead third.
All three will represent the GSL at state, May 21-22, in Spokane on The Creek at Qualchan Golf Course.
G-Prep also had Nate Plaster top the individual leaderboard with a 7-under par 137 after two days of play.
The par-72 course included 48 boys, and the top six not already on a team bound for state in the end would have qualified.
Richland sophomore Dyllan Clark and Hanford sophomore Tyler Anderson, tied at 162 to claim the last available ticket.
Butler and Naftzger finished with the top scores for Wa-Hi, each turning in a 174.
Naftzger had been in contention for an individual berth to state as he shot an 83 on Monday, but ended up in a tie for 29th place.
Butler cut six strokes off his first-round score, turning in an 84 on Tuesday to wind up even with Naftzger.
Hartzheim compiled a 89-91—180, and Redman completed their team score each day with a pair of 91s.
Wa-Hi also had Cameron Hutchinson finish in 42nd place with a 95-94—189.
