State softball play is in high gear, possibly continuing into next week in Oregon and coming to a close this weekend with Washington tournaments.

McLoughlin handed Stayton a 14-3 thumping on the Pioneers’ new field Wednesday night in the first round of Oregon Class 4A play to advance to the quarterfinal round. 

Mac-Hi now heads to Banks for a 3 p.m. showdown on Friday.

Weston-McEwen’s 1A/2A run came to an end on Wednesday in the second round, as Lakeview came to Athena and handed the TigerScots a 5-0 defeat.

In Washington, College Place’s 1A run continues in the round of 16 at Columbia Playfields in Richland. 

The Hawks open double-elimination play against Deer Park at 10 a.m. on Friday, with the tournament continuing through Saturday.

Class 1B and 2B teams head to Yakima for their state tourneys.

Dayton-Waitsburg is in 2B round of 16 action against Onalaska at 11 a.m. on Friday.

And Pomeroy faces Quilcene at 1 p.m. on Friday in the 1B quarterfinals at the Gateway Sports Complex.

Those tournaments also wrap up on Saturday.
