SPOKANE — Pomeroy’s girls track team picked up two regional crowns here Saturday in Regional D7/D9 1B Track and Field 1B Qualifier action here at Central Valley High School. 

Prescott picked up two seconds in Regional action as both teams sought Class 1B State Track and Field berths to the State 1B Track and Field Championships Thursday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

Pomeroy girls brought home the Regional 4x200 relay crown. 

The Pirate team of Tiffany Wessels, Sydney Smith, Carmen Gingerich, and Nikki Halbert toured the 4x200 course in 1:52.53 to win the Regional 4x200 championship. Destany Herbert earned the other Pirate regional title. 

Herbert got off a 35-feet-06.00 heave to win the girls shot put.

Raelin Borley added Pirate points in the girls shot put. 

Borley’s effort of 31-feet-03.00 earned fifth place for the Pirates.

Troy Steele was the highest finisher for the Pirate boys. 

Steele threw the javelin 119-06 to finish sixth in the region.

Prescott took two seconds and a fourth on the boys side. 

Jonathan Cardenas triple jumped to 39-00.00 to finish second. 

Miguel Ayala threw the discus 107-01 to grab a second place finish for the Tigers. 

Omar Velazco added a fourth to the Tiger showing. 

Velazco ran an 18.80 in the 110 hurdles to earn fourth.

On the Prescott girls side, Ericka Eulloqui picked up a fourth in the girls 100 hurdles with a 19.06 effort.  

The Pirate and Tiger survivors from Regional leave Thursday for Cheney to compete in the 2019 Class 1B State Track and Field Championships.
