Kristi Childers, a 2015 McLoughlin High graduate, was part of the Corban University women’s 400-meter relay team that finished third at the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore., on May 11-12.
Childers teamed with MacKenzie Wilson, Selina Newingham and Leah McClain for a time of 47.90, their best mark of the season, for their third-place finish.
The finish clinched the quartet a berth at the NAIA National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., Thursday through Saturday.
Childers graduated from Corban in Salem, Ore., on May 4 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English communications. After her collegiate track career comes to an end at the national meet, she plans to return to Milton-Freewater and pursue a career in her chosen field.
