Steve Ruthven will be the head girls volleyball coach for DeSales High School, the Walla Walla Catholic Schools has announced.

Ruthven played intermural volleyball at Spokane Community College, and while attending Eastern Washington University, he took volleyball skills and coaching courses from then EWU head women’s coach, Pam Parks.

Ruthven also played for the EWU Men’s Volleyball Club Team.

The team traveled all over Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and into Canada playing in tournaments against other colleges and club teams.

Through his wife’s connections with the Walla Walla Catholic Schools, he began coaching girls volleyball at Assumption Middle School in 1995 and was involved as a coach for roughly 10 years.

Additional coaching experience for Ruthven was with the Walla Walla Sweets Volleyball Club, coaching two years at the U16 level and one year at the U14 level.

When not spending time with his family or at his work as a Business Advisor with Baker Boyer Bank, Steve can occasionally be found on the volleyball court at the “Y”.
