OLYMPIA — Calin Hanson, the first-ever College Place golfer to qualify for the state tournament, finished his season with one round of play here at Olympia Country and Golf Club on Tuesday.
The first round ended with Hanson 16 strokes over the cut, as he shot a 106 that ranked 69th out of 80 on the 1A boys leaderboard.
“He fought hard and recorded a 52 on the front nine holes, follow by a 54 on the back nine,” College Place athletic director Kenneth James said. “Unfortunately, this was not enough to make the cut for day two of the tournament.
“Regardless, we could not be more proud of Calin and his accomplishments as a first-year golfer for the Hawks.”
Elias Malakoff, of Seattle Academy, led the field with a 69 that was three strokes ahead of Charles Wright Academy’s Gyan Bains in second place.
Only 40 boys returned today for second-round action, which started this morning at 7:30 a.m.
