Leaf patrol

A city of Walla Walla crew picks up leaves on Lincoln Street near Howard Street on Thursday afternoon with a claw attachment. City crews began collecting leaves in residential areas last week, following the garbage collection routes, and will make two complete passes through the city. Residents should pile loose leaves in the street along the curb near the gutter but not in the gutter. Allow at least 1 foot between the curb and the leaves, and don’t block stormwater grates. Also, leaves must be free of branches and other debris and not bagged. Park vehicles at least 10 feet away from piles, and do not place leaves in lanes of travel, including bicycle lanes.
