At any one time, about a quarter of Pacific Power’s Marengo windmills are busted, generating no power, but also not drawing any power for their own support systems. The rest of the windmills are usually turning full bore (15 rpm), even though 96 percent of the time the wind is not blowing hard enough (13 mph) to break even (generation at least sufficient to power their own support systems).

Trivia question: Side by side, one windmill is turning and the other is not. Which windmill is putting out the most electricity?
