Phyllis Helen Stieglitz
December 28, 1923 — June 8, 2019
Phyllis, 95, passed away in Walla Walla on June 8, 2019. She was born on December 28, 1923, to Joy Einwalter (Lunstrum) and Paul Einwalter in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Her mother died after childbirth and Phyllis was raised by her beloved grandparents Emma and Oscar Lunstrum. She enjoyed her large extended family in Minnesota and Iowa and shared many stories of her life there.
Phyllis was a very talented piano player, sharing her gift playing for her high school, college, church, and her family throughout her life. She met her husband Charles Stieglitz in Dallas and they married in Crockett, Texas on April 12, 1959. They lived for a few early years in Lafayette, Louisiana and then moved to Richardson, Texas where they raised their two daughters, Sherry and Sharon. Phyllis was a homemaker and worked occasionally for several oil companies in Dallas. One of Phyllis’ joys was taking long summer vacations with her family throughout the U.S. particularly in the West. She loved sharing and remembering stories of their adventures and family fun.
Eventually Phyllis and Charles moved to Walla Walla and settled into life in the valley. Phyllis enjoyed time with her family and was so proud of her grandson Ryan. Despite losing her sight a few years ago, she continued to play the piano and remained positive and encouraging even as life became more difficult for her. We will miss her very much.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Stieglitz; her daughters, Sherry (Randy) Rizzuti of Walla Walla and Sharon Ward of Hayden, Idaho; and her grandson, Ryan Rizzuti of Walla Walla.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla, WA 99362.
A private family graveside service will be held Monday, June 17, at Mountain View Cemetery.
