In Loving Memory
Linda Walton Kastning
June 2, 1948 — May 27, 2019
With the great love and the utmost respect for the brilliant woman that she was, we announce the loss of Linda Walton Kastning on May 27, 2019. Linda left a profound impact on her family and community. Her strong will and love for life were sadly overcome by various medical challenges.
Linda was born on June 2, 1948, to Lawrence and Berna Walton (Kastning) in Ellensburg, Washington. She was soon joined by two brothers, Terry and Jerry. She cherished family times and had a special place in her heart for childhood memories at the “Station” and all things Kastning.
After graduating from Thorp High School, Linda married Carl Kophs (Kapocias). They lived in Darrington, WA, Eugene, OR, and Baker City, OR, and had four children. Linda settled in Walla Walla in 1985. On January 30, 1997, she married her best friend and life companion, Howard Boggs.
Linda was an early feminist and a true matriarch. She appreciated the mentorship of other formidable women leaders, and she in turn mentored others. She was a grass-roots volunteer for downtown revitalization, and her career reflected her passion for community. She worked at a senior center, as a municipal planner, and was a strong advocate for affordable housing and the vitality for all in her local community, particularly those who are marginalized.
Linda was a dynamic, elegant, gentle, generous person, whose home was a welcoming haven not only for her family, but also her beloved friends. She was brilliant at genuinely upholding vibrant relationships with her many loved ones. Fiercely smart, yet humble, Linda was known for her sharp mind and quick wit. She laughed easily, often until tears streamed down her face, and made all occasions memorable. She loved music and art, and over the years, she enjoyed creating through batik, calligraphy, sewing, gardening, and writing. She was an accomplished bridge player, and a lover of all games. She was the glue that held everyone together.
Linda is survived by her husband, Howard Boggs; her children, Bernadette Kapocias, Beth Kapocias, Carl Kapocias, and Sarah Kapocias; her step-children, Willow (Tomkins) Baus, Marika Tomkins, Zack Boggs, Adam Boggs, and Mylissa (Boggs) Gonzales, 13 grandchildren; her brothers and their families; her uncle Marvin and his wife, Joan, and her uncle Mervin.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Linda’s life at the old Central Christian Church building at 66 S. Palouse Street in Walla Walla on June 22, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to The United Way of Walla Walla or a charity of the donor’s choice. Friends and family may share memories and sign the online guestbook at www.mountainview-colonialdewtt.com
How lucky we were to have loved Linda that makes saying goodbye so hard.
Life has to end but love doesn’t.
