Catherine N. Schneidmiller

Catherine N. Schneidmiller, age 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Washington Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla on June 5, 2019.
She was born to Grover and Helen Watson in Longmont, CO on October 19, 1925. She spent her childhood years in Longmont, then moved to Greeley, CO with her family. Cathy left high school in her junior year to work in a turkey processing factory to help supplement the family income.
She and her mother traveled to Vancouver, WA to visit relatives and while there Cathy worked as a bucker in the shipyards in Portland, OR. Her best friend from Greeley stopped to visit on her way to work for Boeing in Seattle and Cathy decided to join her. It was at Boeing that she met her future husband, Sam, and when he was discharged from the Air Force, they were married on February 12, 1948 by her Uncle Charles. They moved to Walla Walla where Cathy worked at the Book Nook, then worked at Birdseye as a quality control inspector while completing her GED education. Cathy then went to work for the Walla Walla Public Schools as a cook until her retirement.
She loved flowers and was a dedicated Iris grower being actively involved in the local Iris club. She was also a Worthy Matron and District Deputy in The Order of Eastern Star. Cathy belonged to St. Anne’s Guild of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She enjoyed a wide variety of travel adventures with her family throughout her life.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 71 years, Samuel; and their three children, Helen (Mike) Naylor, Gail Watson, Paul (Jody) Schneidmiller; and by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
There will be memorial service on July 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walla Walla with a lunch to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
