Several hundred people gather Sunday in downtown Walla Walla to peacefully protest police violence and the death of George Floyd, a black man killed while in police custody in Minneapolis on Memorial Day. Mass demonstrations have taken place across the United States for nearly a week. Walla Walla police officers were stationed at several intersections during the rally. The department issued a statement on social media Friday saying Floyd's death is "deeply concerning ... Actions seen in the video (of his death) are not consistent with the training or values we work to promote. Each person deserves justice, and we will continue our work to improve policies, training, culture and transparency."
