The National Weather Service's Pendleton office has issued a flood warning  that includes southeastern Walla Walla County, southeastern Columbia County and central Umatilla County from now until 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Creeks are expected to flood overnight the region. The service notes heavy rain over the past 24-36 hours, combined with snowmelt, has led to excessive runoff with streams, creeks and rivers rising quickly and many reaching bankfull.

Additional rain is expected overnight and could cause these creeks streams and river to flood. People living along waterways are warned to be aware of the rising water and be prepared to move to higher ground. Precautions include avoiding flooded roads, and turning around if one is encountered. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles, the weather service says.
