MILTON-FREEWATER — City crews are repaving several major streets in the downtown Milton-Freewater area this month.
Paving has already been completed on Cowl Street, and has begun on Northeast Eighth Avenue between Elizabeth Street and Main Street, according to a release from city officials.
The city hopes to keep the street open for weekend traffic and resume work early next week.
Also set for repaving are Northeast Fifth Avenue between Highway 11 and Elizabeth Street, which the city has tentatively scheduled for Wednesday and possibly extending to June 22. Work on East Broadway from Highway 11 to Main Street is to begin after completion of the Northeast Fifth project and continue for an estimated seven business days. Davis Street repaving from Eighth Avenue to 12th Avenue has yet to be scheduled.
City Manager Linda Hall said that the projects are expected to be completed by the end of June.
The city is contracting with Humbert Asphalt Inc. for the projects, the release said. City Administrator Linda Evans said the total cost of the repaving is $356,519.
In the release, the city requested that residents on roads under construction move vehicles and other property from the street and right of way in advance, and avoid blowing yard waste or spraying water onto the street while construction is in progress.
