Green Park Elementary School Principal Gina Yonts is leaving Walla Walla Public Schools after 27 years.

On July 1, Yonts will join the Association of Washington School Principals to become director of principal support for Eastern Washington, according to a district news release.

Yonts spent 11 years in the classroom as a teacher at Berney Elementary, then went into administration 16 years ago. She was assistant principal at Garrison Middle School for six years and spent another five years as the school’s principal. She’s led Green Park for five years.

“It’s a blessing that our family is able to continue living in the Walla Walla Valley and continue to be a part of this wonderful community,” Yonts said in a news release. “Moving forward, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to impact regional school systems through principal mentoring and support.”

The district has posted the principal position, and applications are due by May 23. Interviews are slated for the end of the month, Superintendent Wade Smith said today. There will be community meet-and-greets for public feedback on finalists.
