Area preschools will be able to accept more students who qualify, thanks to recent action by Washington state lawmakers.

Educational Service District 123 officials announced this week it has been awarded funding for 152 new preschool class slots, bringing its total of students served to more that 500 preschool children.

ESD 123 out of Pasco has managed the Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program since 2014. It serves children ages 3-5, including students in Waitsburg, Dixie, Burbank and Prescott. The expansion will now also include Walla Walla and College Place, according to a news release.

The program provides free preschool services to qualifying families, as well as nutritious meals and snacks, health screenings and family support. Families looking to apply for the 2019-2020 school year or receive more information can contact the Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program office at 509-544-5704 or the regional recruiter at 509-637-2312.
