MILTON-FREEWATER — School officials canceled classes today at McLoughlin High School after finding a suspicious suitcase in the parking lot.

Administrators at the Milton-Freewater Unified School District were alerted to the suitcase early this morning, Superintendent Rob Clark said.

The district immediately contacted the Milton-Freewater Police Department, he said. Police investigated and called in the Oregon State Police bomb squad.

“We are just using caution,” Clark said. “We had a meeting on Monday night, and I told the community that we will always err on the side of caution, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”

The school district did not receive any threats related to the suitcase, he said.
