The Rev. Richard and Lelia Garrett Coghill of 140 Shane Porter Road celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 21, 2018, at their home.
The dessert reception for friends and family was hosted by only daughter and son-in-law Angela and Matt Bona and grandsons Luke and Eli Bona, of Walla Walla.
The Coghills are pictured above in their original wedding attire.
They nearly didn’t reach their 50th milestone as Richard contended with heart issues this year. Lelia credits the care he received at several facilities, noting, “Without their skill and expertise, we might not have celebrated this day together.”
They met in the dining hall at Seattle Pacific College and wed on Dec. 21, 1968, in Sultan, Wash.
Until retirement in 2015, Richard served 45 years as a pastor in full time Christian ministry. He enjoys yard work, reading and raising chickens.
Lelia worked 37 years in public education as a teacher and principal. She retired in 2012.
She enjoys vegetable gardening, horses and homemaking.
They moved to Walla Walla in 2015 to be near Angela, Matt, Luke and Eli.
