Frank and Kathy Millar of Milton-Freewater observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 21.
A family celebration is planned for early January.
Frank and Kathy grew up in the Walla Walla Valley, attended local schools and met in 1962 at McLoughlin High School.
Her parents were John and Esther Marbut. His parents were Robert and Pauline Millar.
The couple married on Dec. 21, 1968, at Trinity Baptist Church in Walla Walla. The Rev. Harlan Gerlach officiated.
Kathy had recently graduated from Emanuel Hospital Nursing School in Portland. Frank graduated the following year from Oregon State University with an agriculture degree and teaching certification.
He taught ag in Hermiston then at Mac-Hi for several years, before moving into ag sales and research. He worked at Wallowa County Grain Growers, then spent more than 30 years at Wilbur Ellis, retiring in 2013.
A registered nurse, Kathy worked primarily in the emergency room and is now semiretired from Providence St. Mary Medical Center after 35 years.
The Millars are members of Bethel Baptist Church and are actively involved in church and community activities.
They have dedicated their lives to helping others and give their time and resources to many causes at local, state and international levels.
They enjoy traveling to grandkids’ activities in Bend and visiting family and friends around the Northwest and California.
The Millars have two daughters and a son-in-law, Alison Millar, and Megan Millar and Chris Meyers, all of Walla Walla; a son and his partner, Matthew Millar and Jill Montecucco, and daughter-in-law Jessica Millar Sanchez, all of Bend; granddaughter Metzli Millar Sanchez of Bend; and grandson Maitiu Millar Sanchez of Portland.
