John Clayton Steele and Gayla Weber Steele of Walla Walla will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family celebration at Sunset Beach, British Columbia, Canada.
The couple married in Walla Walla on June 8, 1968, at First Christian Church.
Gayla graduated in 1963 from Walla Walla High School and in 1967 from Eastern Oregon College. She taught for several years before raising their children, then volunteered with Child Evangelism.
John served in the U.S. Marine Corps then graduated in 1969 from Oregon State University and earned a master’s of business administration in 1970 from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
He retired as director of business operations from the Roseburg, Ore., Public Schools. As a scout master he was proud to have guided seven boys to earn their Eagle Scout badges.
The Steeles have two sons and a daughter-in-law, Galen Steele of McKinney, Texas, and Aaron and Shara Steele of Bowie, Md.; daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Andy Middlekauff of Bakersfield, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren Sophie, Sage, Haley, Morgan, Brooke, Regan, Grant, Ruthanne, John and Joy.
