The Walla Walla Association of Realtors raised more than $40,000 for the Blue Mountain Community Food Bank during its 14th annual Realtor Care & Share Golf Tournament.

The June 15 event raised the highest total of the golf tournaments that have taken place for the cause, the association reported.

What’s described as the most successful tournament in the association’s history included 120 golfers, 28 local sponsors and countless volunteers, raising a total of $40,096.

“This year’s tournament will provide our community with over 215,000 meals, feeding over 12,000 people weathering life’s storms,” BMAC Food Bank Director Jeff Mathias said in a prepared statement. “It is truly a blessing to have such a great force at work in the community to provide BMAC the resources to help our neighbors in need.”

A committee of 12, chaired by Gyle Balmer, secured $27,915 in local sponsorships and participation. A portion of that was leveraged through a matching campaign from CenturyLink that raised another $12,901.
