The Walla Walla City Council will meet with state lawmakers Friday to discuss legislation on highway construction, real estate excise taxes, fire response, public works budgets, housing and recycling.

The Council will host Sen. Maureen Walsh, R-College Place; Rep. Bill Jenkin, R-Prosser; and newly elected Rep. Skyler Rude, R-Walla Walla, in a public meeting at 2 p.m. Friday at City Hall to discuss the city’s legislative priorities.

At its Wednesday night meeting, City Council members unanimously approved a legislative agenda, which included funding for work on U.S. Highway 12, amending real estate excise taxes, funding to build an overpass on Highway 12 at the Clinton Street and Lower Waitsburg Road intersection, funding for wildland fire fighting and prevention in Eastern Washington, establishing a sustainable source of funding for the state’s Public Works Assistance Account, dedicating a portion of sales tax revenue for affordable housing and homelessness efforts and stabilizing recycling markets.
