The public can comment now through Dec. 12 on a proposed plan to tamp down dust storms in the Wallula area.
The state Department of Ecology’s High Wind Fugitive Dust Mitigation Plan outlines new actions to encourage farmers to adopt practices that disturb the soil less in the area south and east of Kennewick and Burbank.
In a release, Ecology officials say the measures are needed due to dust storms that have overwhelmed existing erosion-control measures and caused particulate-matter levels to exceed national standards.
